Odyssey of the Mind

What is Odyssey of the Mind?

Odyssey of the Mind is a creative, problem-solving educational experience where students work together to solve predefined long-term problems.

OM encourages teamwork across age groups, critical thinking, innovation, and presentation skills through an internationally recognized program supported by sponsors such as NASA, IBM, and Arm & Hammer. Through a problem-solving mindset using locally available resources and materials at home, teams shape the next generation of engineers, programmers, and critical thinkers.

Types of Problems

  • Technical Challenges (e.g., building devices that perform tasks)
  • Classics/Theatrical Challenges involving art, mythology, or historical recreations
  • Vehicle-Based Design and operation tasks
  • Performance-Based creative writing and acting problems
  • Primary Problems specifically designed for K-2 graders, introducing younger children to creativity and performance in a simpler format

What do Kids Learn through Odyssey?

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Tackling real-world challenges through design thinking
  • Collaboration: Working in teams to achieve common goals, working with different age groups
  • Creativity: Designing unique solutions to complex problems
